Septic systems can have a high cost and require water systems often not present. Pit privies have drawbacks, including smell, attracting unwanted insects and potential ground contamination.

Many cultures over time have long since adapted to human waste composting as a viable and effective way to handle feces and food scraps.

Modern references to this process are often referred to as humanure.

How Does Humanure Composting Work?

We use two bins, switching sides every year or two, direct deposit style. This allows for longer composting time. Compost bins ideally like to be placed as solar panels.

This outbuilding has a 10′ x 10′ roof area covering the 8′ x 8′ composting room, porch and stairs.
